Discrimination against living!(Dalit) Protection against Dead !!(Non Dalit): Dalit Not equal after death!!!

Dalits try to pull down ‘caste wall’ in cemetery

A group of activists belonging to a fringe dalit outfit attempted to demolish a wall cutting through a Christian cemetery in Tiruchi on Friday, alleging that it was a sign of untouchability, dividing the space in the cemetery for dalits and non-dalits. The activists of Tamil Nadu Oppressed People Liberation Movement barged into the RCMC Cemetery at Melaputhur in the heart of the city and began demolishing the wall with iron rods and hammers. Members of the RCMC Cemetery Protection Society informed the police who rushed to the spot and arrested eight of the activists who were trying to pull down the wall.
Nilavazhagan, secretary of the front, said their action was not intended to hurt anyone. “We wanted to remove the wall that remained as a sign of untouchability. The wall should be removed by the authorities immediately,” he said. “Christians of 32 residential areas in Tiruchi have been using the cemetery for around two centuries. The 800-feet wall cutting
through the cemetery divides the space for dalits and non-dalits. Dalits were not allowed entry into the space demarcated for non-dalits,” he alleged.
Nilavazhagan and his men had managed to knock off a few bricks of the wall in some places, though the structure remained intact.
In 1976, the wall was partially razed down by a similar group led by a priest. But later the wall was built again after the cemetery protection committee obtained a court order in their favour. A few days back,
the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam led by its president Kolathur Mani along with 1,200 persons staged a protest in Tiruchi demanding that the wall be demolished. Condemning the presence of the wall in the cemetery, Mani alleged that it was a sore symbol of untouchability.
However, the RCMC Cemetery Protection Society, formed years back when first signs of opposition to the wall emerged, justified the presence of the structure saying that the purpose of the wall was protection.

Educational Loan-Interest subsidy available for this academic year too: Chidambaram

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said that interest subsidy for educational loans will be available to the eligible candidates for the current academic year 2010—2011 also.
Speaking at a function organised at Vriddhachalam near here to give away educational loan on Saturday, Mr. Chidambaram said that the Centre had launched the interest subsidy scheme in 2009-2010 to help the candidates belonging to the economically weaker sections to take up higher education.
However, a debate was going on about the period of subsidy because it took time for the message to reach over one lakh bank branches across the country.
Hence, he made it clear that the interest subsidy would be available for the academic year 2010—2011 too, based on the eligibility criteria.
The aggrieved candidates, if any, could approach the Canara Bank for redress. Guaranteeing educational loan to all the eligible candidates Mr. Chidambaram called upon them to approach the banks with confidence.

Employment opportunity in Tata Consultancy Service for SC/ST Graduate and postgraduate students

What you have lost others have gained. Your humiliations are a matter of pride with others. You are made to suffer wants, privations and humiliations not because it was pre-ordained by the sins committed in your previous birth, but because of the overpowering tyranny and treachery of those who are above you. You have no lands because others have usurped them; you have no posts because others have monopolised them. Do not believe in fate; believe in your strength.

Tribute to The Hero of IRANIYAN

“Man is mortal. Everyone has to die some day or the other. But one must resolve to lay down one's life in enriching the noble ideals of self-respect and in bettering one's human life. We are not slaves. Nothing is more disgraceful for a brave man than to live life devoid of self-respect.” Babasheb.Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
Actor Murali passes away
I can’t believe Murali is now no more. He was very sincere in both his personal life and his career. Even if he had to shoot without a break, he would never complain. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with him in films like Porkaalam, Vetrikodi Kattu and Iraniyan. People tell me I’ve the most beautiful eyes. But, I’ve told Murali sir that his eyes are prominent, expressive and striking. His son Atharvaa has just made his debut in Kollywood and this tragedy… I pray to God to give his family strength and peace.                MEENA

It’s very painful to lose a colleague and a friend like Murali. Tamil cinema owes him for his pleasant presence. May his family and friends have the strength to move on with this harsh reality of life..

70 % of this country population don’t matter to us

"In Hinduism, conscience, reason and independent thinking have no scope for development".
B. R. Ambedkar

Media has lost its sense of Priorities: Sainath
Pointing out that a disconnect exists between mass media and mass reality in India today, P.Sainath,Rural Affairs Editor the The Hindu, said the media had lost its sense of priorities and was out of touch with the problems of a vast section of the population of the country. He was delivering the Silver Jubilee Lecture on “Mass media: But where are the masses?” at the Indira Gandhi Natinal Open University here on Wednesday. Noting that the media coverage and editorials following the recent oil price hike failed to fully understand the implications this would have on poor people, Mr.Sainath said he was surprised that the coverage given to this issue was dwarfed by a model’s suicide in some newspapers.
“In the last 15 years, everthing that has become a convenience to the upper and middle class has become cheaper. You take air tickets, computers, cars etc… they are all affordable for us . But in this same period rice, wheat, electricity, water, etc has become 300-500 per cent more expensive for the poor. Why is this not reflected in the media?” On stories of rural resurgence appearing in various magazines in 2010 he quipped that these stories “tiemed well” with the national crime records bureau statistics indicating 2,00,000 suicides since 1997 and three Government appointed commissions recommending the pushing up of official figures of population living below the poverty line.
The veteran journalist said the media to day had a “structural compulsion to lie as several media companies had interests in various arms of the economy. He commented that “private treaties” and “paid news” were undermining the media’s credibility. “Out of the ruins of private treaties, emerged paid news. Private treaties which gave media companies financial stakes in companies became worthless after the stock market tanked in 2008-09. Paid news enabled these corrupt companies and politicians to make unrecorded cash transactions during the Assembly and Genreral Electins in 2009”
Mr.Sainath also mourned the disappearance of number of social sector beats from newspapers. “Today newspapers have no labour correspondent, housing or primary education correspondent. We are explicitly telling 70 per cent of this country that they don’t matter to us”.

Dalits welcome High Court`s quota verdidct

THE recent judgment of theMadras High Court reaffirming reservations in promotion for SCs/STs in Central Government servicestill the level of General Manager has gladdened the hearts of the many who had for long been deprived of this benefit.  Even though this was a constitutional right granted to them by Article 16 (4-A) of the 77th Constitutional Amendment Act 1995, this was not  implemented anywhere in India.

Justice Elipe Dharma Rao passed this judgment on December 9 on a petition filed by E Kandeeban, Employee of Union Bank of India, in 1997 and along with SC/ST unions of four other banks (UCO Bank, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank and Central Bank). This is a long-drawn battle of 12 years with appeals and writs. Even when the Constitution bench of the  Supreme Court upheld the validity of Article 16(A-4) in 2006, it remained only on paper.

The government had failed to implement the ruling by passing an office memorandum to this effet.    The All India Confederation  of SC/ST Organization - Tamil Nadu Branch, Kanbeedan,a petitioner in this case said, “At present reservation in promotion for SCs/STs is only from peon to clerk and to entry level officer. Now this judgement takes the reservation in promotion till scale 7, that it is up to General Manager (GM) in any government organization that includes both State and Central government.” Christu Das Gandhi, IAS,Chairman of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), and also a vocal voice for Dalits, said, “All this while those who were supposed to implement were citing the 1991 Mandal judgment that reservation for SC/ST ends with appointment and Article 16(4-A) is only an enabling Article not a mandatory provision, but this judgment categorically changes all that, making it mandatory.” Though statistics were not available there were scores of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe vacancies kept unfilled in all sectors, was the strong voice that emerged at the meeting.
